Rooster on a Hill of Daisies …

Here are a few pictures of my latest Rooster painting. This vibrant rooster was painted on a vintage tabletop. Before I started to paint I sanded the tabletop and painted the top white. I then painted the tabletop a bright orange and then a vibrant teal. I mixed and used every color paint I have to create this vibrant bird. The fun rooster is standing on a hill of white daisies with a touch of gold glitter paint.
My favorite part of the painting is the sky. I love how the orange sneaks through the teal. This pretty bird should be in my Etsy shop by the end of the day!

Have a great Columbus Day!

Some New and Different Art …

Things that make me happy, trying something new.

I have been quite busy the last few days working on some new pieces of art. My newest colored pencil and pastel drawings have been created on vintage book covers and then attached with nails to plywood. Each piece is unique and part of their uniqueness is due to the different textures that each cover created.

The first piece I did features a colorful rooster sitting on a hill of flowers. I like how the title of the book and its simple star decoration adds to the colored pencil and pastel drawing. Before I attached the drawing to the plywood I sanded the wood and then painted it. I wanted to connect the frame with the original drawing that is why I decided to cover the wood with these vibrant and fun flowers. They match the ones featured on the rooster’s hill.

The next art piece I created is a little simpler and not quite as bright. I really wanted the barn owl’s pretty white face to be the focal point of the piece. I painted the frame a color close to the book cover and then added gold glitter to both parts of the art work to give it a little shimmer. I really love the simplicity of this art piece.

The last drawing I tackled was a little challenging. The book cover wasn’t the easiest surface to draw on but I really like how it turned out. I like all the little details in the drawing. Every time you look at it you discover something new. After I painted and stained the plywood I cut out miniature banners using vintage book pages, I then wrote the words in colored pencil and glued them to the board.

You will be able to find my fun new creations in my Etsy shop. Have a great weekend!

Wishing you a Happy Spring with a New Painting!

Things that make me happy color!

I think it is fitting that I finished my “Rooster on Dandelion Hill” painting on the first day of spring.

This colorful rooster is sitting on a hill of bold dandelions. You can find this vibrant painting in my Etsy shop.

Another One of my Vintage Toys ...

I wanted to share another one of my vintage toys from the 80’s, my Lite–Brite. I enjoyed playing with it as a kid and I love playing with it with my own kids.

My sister and I only used about half of the patterns so I still have plenty of new ones to share with my kids.

This toy is about 30 years old and I still think it has the original light bulb. I guess they don’t make things the way they used to.

I love the vibrant colors of the pegs, they are so cheery.

Here is an order form to get more patterns and pegs. I have a feeling this is not good anymore, especially the prices.

More colorful pegs.

All the Pretty Colors ...

It’s a cold cloudy winter’s day that is in desperate need of some fabulous color. The landscape is painted in whites, grays, and browns. It’s pretty and peaceful but, it is also a little sad. It really could use some vibrant blues and greens or some warm oranges and pinks. Here are a few colorful pictures that make the gray a little less gray.

The kiddies and I were playing with Play-Doh yesterday. I made a little house scene and then edited on the computer, it’s bright and fun. I love Play-Doh.

This is a close up of my "Good Morning Rooster" painting.

My colored pencils.

Meet my "Owl Love Birds"!

Orange and lime green are my two favorite colors.

Ah, and finally vibrant blue, red, yellow, and orange beach umbrellas in the bright morning sun. Summer looks so good today!

Have a warm Monday!
