Some New Christmas Items ...

I wanted to take a quick break from my busy life and share some new items that I have put in my Etsy Shop.

This is one of my newest Christmas cards, it was created with colored pencils and pen. I thought it was only fitting to feature a beautiful owl on a one of my Christmas cards.

Printed on the front of these pretty recycled ornaments is a print of a Christmas ball that was created with acrylic paint on a piece of wood.

I love how the "Smiling Cat" ornaments came out!!! I am hoping to create a few more cats when I have a little more time.

3 Cats Playing Peek-a-boo!

The black and whited recycled ornaments were inspired by vintage Christmas ornaments. The original pen and marker drawings were created on vintage book pages.

I am selling 4 handmade cards, 3 recycled paper ornaments, and 4 recycled gift tags featuring this beautiful Barn Owl as a holiday set in my Etsy shop. I think it's a fabulous gift for your favorite owl lover.

I am also currently working on a couple of commission paintings. I am hoping to share these festive pieces of art by the end of the week.

New Finds...

Yesterday was a beautiful day at the flea market. The sun was shining, there was a comfortable breeze, and there were so many wonderful vintage things to look at.

I think these beautiful old hangers will be perfect to display Christmas ornaments or gift tags on at art shows.

For awhile I have been wanting to create some jewelry featuring prints of my art. I want to use vintage beads to create the necklaces. I found some pretty vintage necklaces at the flea market yesterday.

If you look at my art you probably know I love birds especially owls. Yesterday I found some adorable owl pieces.

This beautiful cast iron owl was only a $1.00.

These fun owls are a little warn and have been glued more than once but I think they are too cute. They were also only $1.00!

This unique owl vase was also a $1.00!

I saw this and pictured a colorful owl painted on it. I think it will make a wonderful canvas for my art.

If you are looking for more unique and fun vintage stop over and visit Coloradolady for Vintage Thingie Thursday.

The Pros and Cons …

Today I started a new adventure, going to the laundry mat. It was a new experience. I have never washed clothes at a laundry mat before; I have always had a washing machine.

Here are the Pros of my experience …

1. It only took an hour and fifteen minutes to wash and dry four huge loads of wash. (The four would have been seven at home and would have taken me all day because I usually hang my clothes out to dry and because my dryer takes forever.)

2. I folded everything right away and put it away right when I got home. (I have a habit of leaving things in baskets for a couple of days.)

3. I was able to sit and draw uninterrupted for almost an hour.

4. I didn’t have to run up and down stairs.

5. I didn’t flood my basement.

6. And there were some interesting people to watch.

The Cons

1. I had to leave the house to wash my clothes.

2. I missed hanging my laundry on the wash line.

3. There were a few scary people.

4. I had to lug four full containers of wash to and from my car four times.

5. It was HOT in the laundry mat.

6. I missed having my own washer.

Overall it wasn’t too bad. I have learned a few things for next time so it should go a little smoother.

Have a relaxing Sunday!

Fun Collages ...

Elegant Hoop Collage-Barn Owl

This elegant collage is a full of vibrant colors, shimmery sequins, and pretty artwork. In the foreground is an elegant barn owl perched on a wooden fence post. Framing the bird are beautiful white, purple, pink lilacs and a cute cherry tree. In the distance are five vibrant multi colored hills. Colorful sequins dot the colored pencil and pastel drawings.

The canvas inside the hoop is a recycled pair of jeans. I left some excess jean around the outside to frame the vintage hoop. I have colored the jean border with blue and red pastels. I used vintage thread to sew the miniature pieces of art to the jean canvas. In the sky above the owl are tiny stars made clear beads. I have sewed a red ric rac loop onto the top of the collage for easy hanging.

Some of the fun materials used to create this collage include, recycled paper bags, recycled jeans, a vintage hoop, vintage thread, sequins, beads, colored pencil, pastels, and pen.

Cute Little Hoop-Owl Family

This petite piece of art is a fun collection of vintage and recycled materials. Each colorful owl was drawn on a different type of paper. The largest owl was created on a brown paper bag, the pretty pink and green on a piece of drawing paper, the pretty white and orange on a vintage book page, and lastly the black sheep of the brood on a vintage music page. The whimsical branch was created out of brown paper bag and the leaves and flowers from vintage music and book pages. A cute little banner with the world family written on it hangs above this fun bunch. At the bottom of the collage, off in the distance are three colorful hills.

Everything has been sewn on a recycled toddler shirt of my daughters that wasn’t nice enough to be donated. I stained the shirt with coffee and attached all of my drawings with vintage thread. I added colorful and shimmery sequins to the art for a little glitter. I have sewn a loop of material to the piece for easy hanging. Four pretty sequins decorate the loop.

Some New and Different Art …

Things that make me happy, trying something new.

I have been quite busy the last few days working on some new pieces of art. My newest colored pencil and pastel drawings have been created on vintage book covers and then attached with nails to plywood. Each piece is unique and part of their uniqueness is due to the different textures that each cover created.

The first piece I did features a colorful rooster sitting on a hill of flowers. I like how the title of the book and its simple star decoration adds to the colored pencil and pastel drawing. Before I attached the drawing to the plywood I sanded the wood and then painted it. I wanted to connect the frame with the original drawing that is why I decided to cover the wood with these vibrant and fun flowers. They match the ones featured on the rooster’s hill.

The next art piece I created is a little simpler and not quite as bright. I really wanted the barn owl’s pretty white face to be the focal point of the piece. I painted the frame a color close to the book cover and then added gold glitter to both parts of the art work to give it a little shimmer. I really love the simplicity of this art piece.

The last drawing I tackled was a little challenging. The book cover wasn’t the easiest surface to draw on but I really like how it turned out. I like all the little details in the drawing. Every time you look at it you discover something new. After I painted and stained the plywood I cut out miniature banners using vintage book pages, I then wrote the words in colored pencil and glued them to the board.

You will be able to find my fun new creations in my Etsy shop. Have a great weekend!
