Finally!!!!

 

Hi!!! I am so excited I am able to post some art on my blog!!!! I have not been able to post anything new because blogger has not been working for me. Every time I would try to post something it would freeze up. I have so many new piece to share. Today I though I would show some of my new art prints.

 

My husband surprised me in August with a new Epson printer, I love it!!! We had an HP printer that I had been using to create my cards, ornaments, and tags, but I never felt comfortable using it for more than that. The printing quality on my new printer is amazing, the detail and the color is breathtaking. I can make prints of all my art including prints of my acrylic paintings and it picks up all the details!

 

The first print I am sharing is my watercolor fox. The materials used to create this fun mixed media piece include a vintage teal sewing hoop, a vintage bead, vintage thread, silver glitter, a silver pipe cleaner, and material from an old pair of white Capri pants that I grew out of.  

 

 

 

The next art print piece I want to share is a watercolor print of a pastel colored owl. I love this owl art especially his eyes!!! The materials used in this mixed media art include a vintage sewing hoop, vintage thread, vintage lace, gold glitter paint and material from a pair of moss green shorts that I grew out of. (All the recycled clothes I use in my art were  pre-Abbey,  I think she helped make my hips wider!!!lol)

 

 

This owl art features a print of my favorite colored pencil drawing. The print has been mounted on a piece of wood that I painted with a yellow ochre acrylic and then stained with burnt umber paint. Vintage blue thread was used to decorate the board before I attached the owl image with six rusted nails.

 

 

Next is my Little Green Elephant. He has been attached to a piece of wood with three vintage mint green tacks. The wood was painted with orange, mint green, and cream acrylic paint. There are three tiny white flowers in the upper left corner. The art was stained with burnt umber acrylic paint.

 

 

 

The last art print I am going to share is my Little Pumpkin watercolor print. Wood, vintage tacks and an old book page are the materials used in this art. The wood was painted black and light blue and then stained. The print was sewed to the old book page before I attached the paper to the wood with  the four vintage yellow tacks.

 

I have about 17 other new piece of art to share, including Christmas art and a few new Owl paintings.  

2012 did not exactly start the way I had hoped. I woke up on the 4th and felt like someone sucked the life out of me and then ran me over. That same night Abigail began throwing up and for the next six days all I did was sleep. Not a very prosperous start to the New Year. You would think I could get some art created since I was lying around, nope that didn’t happen even my arms ached and were tired. This past Tuesday Abbey went back to school and when I came home from taking her I crawled into bed slept. Tuesday was the last day I took a nap!

Thankfully when I woke up Wednesday I felt so much better. I had gotten a water color set when I was sick and I was super excited to try it out. I have not created in water color since college and I really want to learn to work with this beautiful medium. The plan was to sit all afternoon and play when Abbey was at school that did not happen. Isabel decided to find a dead mouse in the backyard and roll in it. She thought she smelled pretty I did not, Yuk. So while Abbey was at school had to wash the pooch it was fabulous!

I woke up at 5 Thursday so I would have a chance to paint in peace. My kids have radar because by 6 it was can I have a snack, and bickering and the TV was on. Thursday was a whirlwind of taking Christmas decorations down, cleaning, laundry, playing with Abbey, home work, and dinner. Michael was out of town Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, I hate when he is gone. I always tease him and say he doesn’t do much, but it is nice to have another grown up here to battle the children.

I woke early yesterday and did some more work on the owl family piece. This is the first water color I have done since collage. What do you think? I find it relaxing and calming to work in. I love acrylic and colored pencil because how bold they are, so I am trying to adapt the watercolor to fit my style. I would really love to hear some feedback, good or bad. I think that is the only way I will get better.

Along with playing with the water colors yesterday Michael and I finally went out to dinner for our anniversary, it was really nice. I can’t remember the last time we went to dinner together. I also took Abbey to see Beauty and The Beast in the theater. If you have a little girl or a little boy who likes Beauty and the Beast go see it! It was so good! I love that movie and it was so special to see it with Abigail.

Recycled Paper Ornaments and FREE SHIPPING in my Etsy Shop ...

Vintage Inspired Santa Ornament

I wanted to share some of the newest items I listed in my Etsy shop, Recycled Paper Ornaments. These fun ornaments feature prints of some of my colored pencil, pen, and pastel drawings printed on recycled card-stock. The front of the ornaments feature a little art print and on the back a piece of recycled cardboard colored with colored pencil, pastel, or crayon. After I glue together the ornaments I paint the back and the edge of the ornaments with gold glitter paint for a little sparkle. The ornaments hang from a piece of vintage cream colored thread I have purchased from the flea market.

Last year I used some to decorate Abbey and Noah’s teacher’s cookie bags and also used them to decorate our place settings on Christmas Eve. They can double as gift tags too, you can take a paint marker (I would use gold) and write a little message on the back of the ornaments and then attach them to a gift or a bottle of wine.

The Zoo and a Barred Owl...

Monday was a beautiful day so the kids and I took a trip to the zoo.

There were a couple of peacocks wandering around.

Aren't these two fabulous. Mother Nature is an amazing artist.

Abbey and Noah love feeding the goats...

This is the first time we ever got to walk through the Kangaroo exhibit. They can come right up to you. When we walked through they were all laying in the sun. It was really neat to get to go so close to them.

We have not had our first frost yet so there are still plenty of beautiful flowers blooming, like this cannon.

Cat's are always worried about their appearance.

I think he has at least 10 ladies who live with him, poor guy.

They have quite a large herd of Bison.

I think he this Snow owl is absolutely gorgeous. Every time we visit the zoo he just sits there and stares at you. It's almost like he is sizing you up.

This time they had three Barn owls instead of two. They had just rescued an owlet and the two older Barn owls were taking care of it.

I love the black swans. I think they are even more eloquent than the White ones. I think I might add black swans to my what I am going to paint next list.

Inspiring!

I was really excited when I got to see the Barred owl. I just finished a painting last week featuring a Barred owl. I love the different textures and pattern in their feathers and their coloring is really beautiful. I think he looks like a wise owl, all knowing. He has a confidence in the way he holds himself.

When I created the painting I first created the vibrant sunflower. I wanted the flower to be warm and colorful, because I wanted to keep the owls coloring closer to the actual bird.

When I began the owl I mixed many different grays and warm browns. After I painted a bit I began to feel like I need to add other splashes of color. I added light blue and complimented that with orange and then I started highlighting with yellow and complimenting that with purple. He defiantly has his own look and I am really happy with how the piece came out.
