Orange House in Teacup ...

Fun, vibrant colors, and new paint were the inspiration behind this painting.

I don’t buy too many paint colors. I buy the basics and mix most of my colors. I had an art professor in college who beat that into our heads. She said real artist mix their own colors, even black they don’t buy it. I still mix my own black, but I have a bottle of it that I use occasionally, shhh don’t tell. When I was online buying my yellow ochre and white titanium I spotted a fabulous pink, Fluorescent Pink. I thought it be fun especially for Christmas balls and the occasional bright pop. I love the color and used it throughout this painting.

Like the rooster painting I sat outside on a blanket and enjoyed the beautiful summer weather while I created this piece. I just wanted to paint for fun, it was more like therapy than work.

Featured in the teacup is a whimsical little orange house with a black cat gazing out of one of the windows. A pretty pink brush tree, a glittery apple tree, and buttons complete the teacup. Hanging around the cup is a moon, sun, and star. I’ve decorated the flowers at the bottom of the painting with buttons.

Good Morning Rooster …

Roosters are one of my favorite vintage items to collect and they are also one of my favorite subjects to paint.

I love how colorful, whimsical, and proud they are.

I had a rare quiet Sunday when I created this painting. I sat outside under our curly willow tree on a blanket and just enjoyed the beautiful day. I wanted to use bright beautiful colors and make the rooster fun and whimsical. It was nice to paint just for the love of painting.

A Quick Hello ...

I wanted to stop in and say hello to all of my blogging friends. The summer was hectic, but wonderful and I am finally falling back into a routine. I miss the summer desperately though, going to the pool and the park our little trips to the library and playing on the slip and slide.

Both of my animals have started school. Noah started second grade about two weeks ago and my little lady started preschool last week. I think it’s been tougher for me than her. She is only going three afternoons a week, but I miss her terribly when she is gone.

There is one bright spot to school starting and that is I get to create art on a regular basis. I love working and it’s nice to have an opportunity to focus on my art without constant interruptions. I do however miss Abbey constantly asking me to paint her nails or let her paint with me.

I hope everyone had a great summer!

Fairy - Tale Mushrooms …

I discovered these delightful little mushrooms while I was watering my flowers Saturday morning. I think they look enchanting, like magical mushrooms that you would find in a fairy - tale.

Beautiful Bugs ...

What I love most about summer is how alive everything is. Everything is changing and growing, everyday there is something new to see. I especially love watching all the different bugs that visit our yard. I find it so relaxing to walk around the yard trying to capture these wonderful creatures with my camera. Here are some pictures of my six legged friends.

Please take a little time and visit A Southern Daydreamer and her nature loving friends for, Outdoor Wednesday.

Original Folk Art Painting, Vintage Christmas Ball Box …

I know that it’s only July, but I have been working on Christmas paintings. I love creating Christmas art. Maybe it’s because of all the wonderful memories I have of this time of the year, the music, the decorations, and all the special moments shared with the people I love.

The inspiration behind this particular Christmas painting was my new vintage ornaments and the adorable box they came in. The painting and Christmas cards of the painting soon will be available in my Etsy shop.
